Thank You

Reaching 2 by Sanja Gjenero

Dear Friends,

A big thank you to all our family, friends and supporters of which there were many.

Together we had the best, truly grassroots effort in the county, as we managed without any big party money to get 56,000 people to vote for us.  This is after our opponent headed into the general election with a 2 to 1 lead of 40,000 to 20,000 primary votes.  You folks generated an extra 36,000 voters compared to our opponent’s extra 26,000 voters.  Unfortunately this could not make up for the difference in voter primary turnout as the tidal wave of the country was too vast and there are no second places in elections!

But I am so proud to have the kind of friends, family and supporters who could turn out that many votes for the person you believed in! Think of it, folks, Our total vote count is five times the vote  of any local senate or rep seat! Our District is five times the size of those races and with none of the resources invested into those types of races you did an amazing job!

Dean and I are so thankful for your help, love, and support. I am as always humbled that all of you invested time, money and effort into my dream and future and the future of our country and I am sorry that this time that investment did not work out. But the sun comes up another day and the things that are truly important in anyone’s well-lived life, one’s friends and family are still with me and at the end of the day that makes me truly blessed. Thank you all again and have a wonderful, healthy and happy holiday season.

Love,
Laura

Endorsement, Walkers and Invitation

We have three important items to share with you.

The Journal & Topics Newspaper has endorsed Laura Morask for 12th subcircuit Judge.

…excerpt….

Morask For Judge

Morask’s rise to a level of supervisor of the county’s Chicago West side gang crimes and senior sex crimes prosecutor staffs and her dedication to improving the justice system’s processing and investigation of these crimes, is outstanding evidence of her dedication and leadership skills.   Her jury trial experience of the last 21 years, her experience in Class X felony cases, and her experience dealing with some of the most serious criminal cases in Illinois in recent years, have given her unique and extensive insights into courtrooms and the life and responsibilities of judges. All of this leads the Journal to endorse Morask in this race.

False Endorsements

US Supreme Court, Washington DC photo by David Lat

Laura Morask’s opponent, Pamela Loza a private practitioner in divorce and criminal defense law has been demonstrating a troubling lack of attachment to the truth.  Recently in a serious voter deception, Loza claimed a false endorsement by the Journal & Topic’s newspapers mailing out a flyer before she even participated in the newspaper’s scheduled endorsement session.  Loza’s actions were a shocking deception to voters as she knew that this endorsement was false.  Furthermore in every edition of the Journal & Topics the publisher himself stated that “the candidate’s flyer was erroneous.”  Loza admitted to this conduct and  gave assurance that this flyer was removed from circulation.  However the distribution of this flyer continues unabated.

Her conduct is currently under investigation by two state boards.  It is shocking that someone running for judge, a position of highest honor and trust would knowingly mislead the public.  Integrity, honesty and experience should be the benchmark for any judge.

Laura Morask candidate for judge in the 12th Subcircuit (Punch #57) is an outstanding prosecutor with a record-setting number of jury trials, as well as bench trials and an outstanding record of convictions.  Laura has dedicated herself to public service for the last 22 years as a State’s Attorney in the Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuting gang crimes, child molesters and serious class X felonies.  She currently supervises the intake of all crimes that occur on the West Side of Chicago and trains dozens of young attorneys.  As a veteran courtroom prosecutor, Laura is the only candidate with courtroom experience so critical to any judge.

Laura has been found twice QUALIFIED by the Chicago Bar Association and RECOMMENDED by the Northwest Suburban Bar Association, the two major and prestigious bar associations in Cook County.  Significantly, Laura is the only candidate who has been CERTIFIED by the Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar to have the ethical, forensic and legal experience necessary to conduct the most serious of cases, capital litigation.

The judicial Subcircuit includes much of Wheeling Township in much of Arlington Heights; all of Mt. Prospect, Prospect Heights and Wheeling, as well as most of Des Plaines and Elk Grove Village; all of Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northbrook and Winnetka; much of Glenview and part of Park Ridge and Northfield.  Think about who you know in this district, and pass the word.

Chicago Tribune Voter Guide and Volunteer Breakfast both a Success

Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune Voter Guide is now online.  Laura Morask’s 12th Judicial Sub circuit race in Cook County stacks up the candidates and gives you an understanding in their own words on why each candidate is qualified to be judge. (full text below)

“The Chicago Tribune Voter Guide provides voters a chance to understand my qualifications,  on many levels.  I always welcome the chance to meet people face to face and share with them the importance of Judges in our country.  I realize sometimes voters don’t have the chance to meet each candidate and the Tribune’s Voter Guide is a great resource for these voters.”

A recent face to face meeting with Laura was her Volunteer Breakfast.  It was a really great opportunity to talk with voters, and plan for the upcoming work towards the election.  Laura appreciates everyone who made it and was also happily surprised with how many people emailed support and how they will help in other ways.  Thanks everyone.  Every little bit helps.

Spotlight on Illinois Supreme Court Capital Litigation Trial Bar

Photographic Spotlight by Chris CummingsThe Illinois Supreme Court Capital Litigation Trial Bar is the blue ribbon committee established to ensure that only those with the proper ethical and trial experience can conduct capital litigation.  Laura Morask is the only candidate in her race to be twice certified as lead counsel by this organization’s rigorous process.

The process consists of a review committee which interviews various legal references to verify and confirm murder jury experience, forensic knowledge and experience, DNA knowledge and experience and ethical trial standards.

Experience

Laura is also the only candidate in her race to have record-setting trial experience, with over five thousand bench and motion hearings and a record amount of  jury trial litigation,  leading any prosecutor in Cook County. She is more intimately familiar with the rules of evidence, the law, and daily courtroom management and litigation. As the deputy supervisor of preliminary hearings for Branch 44 at Harrison and Kedzie handling all of the felony cases on Chicago’s west side,  she currently supervises the prosecution of 400 cases monthly, trains dozens of younger assistants and manages a staff of courtroom personnel.

Expert in DNA and Forensic  evidence

Combining her interests in biology and law, she developed an expertise in DNA. This expertise has enabled her to become a forensic expert familiar with not only rape cases but capital cases, and has tried over a hundred jury trials involving such issues  as lead counsel. As previously mentioned, she is the only candidate in her race to be twice qualified by the Illinois Supreme Court’s Capital Litigation Trial Bar recognizing she has the forensic, legal and ethical experience required by law to handle capital cases.  Over the years she have advised and taught many fellow lawyers how to analyze and effectively present DNA evidence. She lectures locally and nationally and published a chapter in the Joint Cook and DuPage County Training Manual for Prosecutors. Her DNA expertise was recently featured on FOX News.

Please help share the good word about Laura’s judicial race in the 12th subcircuit. The Committee to Elect Laura Morask encourages you to use the power of email to reach out to friends who vote or should register to vote.
